That’ll teach you, AIG

Says Congress: So, what we’re gonna do is make you give back that $165 million because if we don’t, the American people will finally see us for the shills that we actually are and it will be OUR heads on the block next!  Leaving you only $169,835 BILLION dollars of taxpayer money.  Contractual integrity doesn’t matter…we can MAKE you pay it via creative legislation! And NOW…the government can arbitrarily make laws to take away anything anyone you may earn or, in your case, are contractually entitled to. Isn’t that clever?  Furthermore, it doesn’t even matter that we already knew about these bonuses, we were just hoping the American Taxpayers wouldn’t find out…but, since they did…

And then, and this is the best part really…we’re STILL gonna give you ANOTHER $30 BILLION dollars of aid because you managed the last $170 BILLION dollars so competently only we’re gonna really punish you by keeping another $165 million dollars, giving you only $29,835 BILLION MORE dollars instead.

Ha. Ha. Take that, AIG.

And how!

Maybe it’s time to discuss congress and it’s inability to effectively do ANYTHING.  I mean seriously…remember just a few weeks ago when Obama signed that “glorious” stimulus package that apparently no one had time to read? Chris Dodd snuck a little ammendment in there (that he is now trying to undo) that in addition to restricting executive pay in companies receiving bailout dollars, it exempts these already committed bonuses.  According to the law that the Congress passed and the president signed, these bonuses are completely legal and AIG did nothing wrong in paying them. The politicians who are trying to be the crusading heroes are exactly the ones who helped create the mess they are now trying to claim credit for “fixing.” It is political kabuki and it’s disgusting.

You did know that Congress just voted themselves ANOTHER raise.  I wouldn’t mind getting a raise.  Wonder how my boss would react to me voting one for myself.

Oh…one more question.  When will Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac executives be returning their bonuses?

What a day. Unbelievable. I didn’t even get to see the strange guy with the purple cape and orange catface hat.

Tragic indeed. Seriously though…you must get a picture. Maybe he’d pose with you if you asked him too! ;)
