You know today sucks when…

…you get a call from your wonderful other half and the first thing he says is, “Honey, I just want you to know that everything is okay.”

Me: O_o ???

Robert: “Lucy is fine, but…”

Me: O.O !!!!

Robert: “…she was attacked on our walk this morning. But she’s going to be just fine.”

The questions that flood ones mind in such a moment come fast and furious, but what is most noticeable is the slight dizziness that occurs as the blood drains from ones face as the meaning of such words sink in far enough to be understood.

What it amounts to is the fact that my neighbors one block behind us are complete dumbasses. Yeah…that word pretty much sums them up.

My dog, my sweet little Lucy, who was on a leash as she always is for her morning walk with Robert, minding her own business just smelling the smells and looking for squirrels like she always does…was freakin’ attacked by two labs who were loose in front of their owner’s house!!!!

Why do they let stupid people like this own dogs? It’s not the dog’s fault, it’s the idiot owner’s fault for not

a. having them leashed as per city/county ordinance
b. having them trained so they will listen to their owner
c. having them socialized so they won’t attack other animals

Robert and Lucy were just walking by, on the other side of the street, Lucy hadn’t even noticed them! Those labs rushed out from their own yard and lunged at her, biting her in several places, she’s got puncture wounds and Robert was extremely lucky he didn’t get bit himself (though he confessed to me he wished he had been because in such a case, justice is swift and very immediate)!!!

She really is going to be okay.  As dog attacks go, it wasn’t too bad…five puncture wounds though. :'(  They gave her a round of antibiotics and she’s got some pain meds. At the moment, she’s having a difficult time walking straight (she’s a bit loopy from the meds)…poor thing. At least she doesn’t seem to be feeling any pain.

My poor little girl!!! :'(

Robert has filed a police report – apparently, the police are “quite familiar” (exact quote) with this residence already. Great.   I think that’s code for “good luck on making them pay the bill”.    He’s going to call the local sheriff and request an escort to drop off the vet bill and some photos this afternoon. Since this house is known to have problems, I’m hoping the cops don’t hesitate to come out for us. DH said he’s going to hand them the photos/bill and politely say something like “You can pay me now and get this out of the way or you can pay me later plus court fees. Your choice.”!

UPDATE: 03OCT2009 “She’s Still Waggin’“: followup on our girl. :)

Thank you bOaT rOcKeR. Lucy seems to be doing far better than me or Robert. She’ll be okay. :)

Oh, poor Lucy!! That’s just criminal! You’re lucky Robert didn’t get hurt, too, but I understand his point about him being bit.

How did he break it up? I hope he gave those labs a swift kick!

He managed a good kick at the main dog and a third party happened to drive up and helped break off the attack. Robert got Lucy out of there in a hurry.

      I’m livid, he’s livid. I can’t believe this happened. >:(

I read your previous post first, then scrolled down and saw this. Poor Lucy! What a brave dog for putting up with so much. I wish he’d been carrying a baseball bat so those labs could have figured out why jumping out of their yard is a bad idea. >:(

Indeed. Robert is going to start carrying canine mace, he’d look quite menacing walking around with a baseball bat, lol! However, he is in complete and total agreement with your sentiment and plans to be fully prepared for whoppin’ @$$ in the future. ;)
