We’ve lost an absolute treasure…

May 10, 2010 Leave a comment

The bright lights of the silver screen continue to burn out leaving an ever growing darkness that will fairly soon extinguish all that was the glorious glamor of the original Hollywood.

We will never again have the likes of Lena Horne, she is nothing less than legendary in beauty and talent.  92 years…that’s a wonderfully long life to live.

Of course, my observations are primarily from the viewpoint of her amazing talent.  They do not touch on the amazing influence she had on race relations in Hollywood and beyond.  One incident in particular stands out: during a performance for the USO at Ft. Riley, KS, Lena walked off stage to the back of the room when she noticed that German prisoners of war were seated in front of black American soldiers!  In a Tribune interview years later, she said of the incident, “I just walked off stage and went up and sang to the back of the room.  It happened a couple of times, and they finally said, ‘Get her out of the USO’.  I just reacted as Lena.”

Peace to you Ms. Horne, and thank you for sharing your gifts with the world.

P.S. My favorite song? “I don’t think I’ll end it all today” ;)

Letterman vs. Leno

Okay…FOR THE RECORD: I am a Conan supporter through and through (and this is the truth!), but I have to say…here I am, it is 11:43 pm and what am I to do? Conan’s show has been HIJACKED by Leno, so basically, I am left to choose the lessor of two evils: the creepy dude who sleeps with his staff or the dude who stole Coco’s show. What to do. It is admittedly a shallow dilemma, but when one is actually too tired to sleep (ever get that? it happens to me occasionally…so tired but just cannot sleep) these are the kinds of issues that swim in the mind.

When the hosts themselves are enough to repel the viewer, what can be relied upon to sway the decision? It boils down to this: Lettermen’s guest or Leno’s

Yeah…TOTALLY NO CONTEST!

Snoop Dogg has got abso-freakin’-lutely NUTHING on Wolverine! LMAO!!

Of course, my late night “allegiance” will likely flip back to Letterman by Friday to avoid the sheer atrocity that is Heidi Montag. *gag* Or, more probably, I will skip them both and just wait for Craig Ferguson. *grin*

P.S.  I’ve decided that when I grow up, I want to be Betty White. *grin*

Open Letter to Kara DioGuardi:

It’s true, we did get “the memo”.  America knows you have the hots for Casey James.  In spite of your “efforts” to hide it, somehow…somehow, we, the viewing audience, have managed to pick up on your fascination with this dude…amazingly enough.

Sure, we know that Casey James can play the guitar, and he can sing, and he can do both at the same time.  We know he has heroically fought his way back from a traumatic motorcycle accident.  We also know that his brief time in county jail officially makes him a “bad boy”, and these are all qualities that make for a seriously good “Idol” story.  We further have observed that yes, he is a rather intriguing mix of John Krasinski and Gerard Butler:

Open Letter to Sharon Osbourne:

Holy wow, Sharon. You really are a complete bitch!  And a catty one at that! (and your DJ cohorts are no better). You have such a stunningly superficial view of what real beauty is that it’s embarrassing to listen to you.

Side note: For those not in the know or who are under the delusion that Sharon Osbourne is a decent person, I refer you to this article (with video) by the Huffington Post.  Also, view this follow-up piece.

I wonder what it is about Ms. Boyle that is so intimidating to you. Clearly you ARE intimidated by something to so openly attack her.

You know the old saying, “those who live in glass houses…?”  For a woman who has had as much plastic surgery as you have, I suppose it shouldn’t surprise anyone that you value looks far above character and talent. Inner beauty does not exist in your world…in fact, I seriously doubt you could even grasp the concept.

What you fail to see, and the rest of the world sees brilliantly, is that Susan Boyle is a lady, both graceful and beautiful, inside and out. That is something you will never be able to buy or have implanted.

P.S.  Ms. Boyle’s album is now for sale! Take a listen over at Amazon.com!

Tonight…The Wedding!!

Jim, Pam…it’s been a long road. And yeah, I know you’re only fictional characters and all, but I have to say, it’s great to see you two finally getting hitched.  Your wedding will probably be bigger than Luke & Laura’s (egads…I remember that!! O_o)…though, not as big as the wedding of Lady Di, but she had the distinct advantage of being an actual person.  ;)

You’ve gotten a much happier ending than the original Office (Tim and Dawn, British original version) but they generally seem a rather pessimistic lot anyway so their ending made sense. It is alluded that Tim and Dawn may wind up together but, that is left up to the minds of the audience.

We Americans LOVE to live in ubber-sugar-coated-unreality. Blatant happy endings rule.  *grin* It gives us all kinds of warm fuzzies and in today’s climate of political demolition and economical implosion I fully welcome ubber-sugar-coated-unreality. Oddly enough, it’s keepin’ me sane.

Let’s travel down memory lane, shall we? Then after that, we can discuss my script idea for “The Office”!

Well that was fabulous. And I’m looking forward to the one hour special tonight. OH! Here’s the script idea I mentioned…

Ever.  Especially not creepy stalker love, which we all know is the most enduring kind of love there is…awwwwww.  ;D  And speaking of creepy, check out this image from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s upcoming new play, “Love Never Dies” (a la “Phantom of Manhattan”).  Kind of looks like Emmy Rossum without eyeballs.  O_o    *shudder*

Love Never Dies.
