PSA: So, you think you can text and drive..

August 25, 2009 Leave a comment

There are two things my oldest daughter (almost 14) reminds me of daily:

  1. She “needs” a cell phone, like, yesterday (WITH texting, thank you very much).
  2. She will be driving next year.

There are few things in this world that terrify me more than the thought of one of my beautiful girls having a momentary lapse in good judgement that will end in a tragedy like this (warning…video below is most definitely graphic, bear in mind it is a recreation, however, it was produced by the Gwent police department in Wales, England who see these kinds of accidents with frightening regularity):

(YouTube has been removing this video repeatedly because of it’s graphic nature. That is why I simply uploaded to my site – don’t want it disappearing any time soon. Ironically, if anyone ever actually gets into a really bad accident like the one depicted above, it’s going to be way more graphic than what the special-effects team created there. I mean, waaaaaay more graphic. Compound fractures, the works.)

Texting and driving.  Here are some facts from a couple of recent studies:

  1. You increase your risk of serious accident by 23% when you text while driving.
  2. An experiment this year with Car and Driver editor Eddie Alterman revealed that texting while driving had more of a negative impact on driver safety than being drunk:
    -Unimpaired:  .54 seconds to brake
-Legally drunk:  .54 seconds PLUS 4 feet to brake
-Reading e-mail:  .54 seconds PLUS 36 feet to brake
-Sending a text:  .54 seconds PLUS 70 feet to brake
  3. Despite the acknowledgement of the dangers of texting behind the wheel, about half of drivers 16 to 24 say they have texted while driving, compared with 22 percent of drivers 35 to 44.

It’s something to seriously consider.

Report: Robert Pattinson Hit by Taxicab

Amid a New York City mob of frenzied fans, Rob Pattinson collided with a taxi on the street outside the Strand bookstore downtown Thursday, according to reports.

When your “love” for any given actor/actress forces them to flee from you, take that as a hint that you may be coming on a bit strong.

Before you hyperventilate, he’s just fine…this time. Heh.

PSA. Idiots who stop in store aisles.

March 21, 2009 1 comment

This is a public service announcement for all those who, whilst shopping in the local mega-super-wholesale-store (on the single busiest friggin’ day of the week btw!), feel the need to STOP in the middle of the main aisle thereby BLOCKING ALL TRAFFIC until they decide it’s time to stop gawking at the 10lbs of peanut butter for $2.39 in the end cap of aisle 32! Creamy or chunky…THIS IS NOT A LIFE-ALTERING DECISION!!!

Moooooove IT!!!!

Why do you stop? Really! WHY?!? Is it that the lighting is exceptionally amazing that you must pause in order to savor it’s sickly, florescent-ness? Or, are you just stunned into immobility by the low, discount prices that surround you in every conceivable direction?

You UNbeLIevable DOUCHENOZZLE!!! Don’t you realize that my fish sticks are starting to thaw?? Seriously…I’m gonna smack that stupefied look right off your face if you don’t MOVE YOUR ASS! Geez. I would have thought by this stage of life you would have figured out that the world does NOT revolve around YOU! (It revolves around me…and my fish sticks! *smirk*)

So, either shop on Thursday mornings when no one else with a life can manage it, or just get the hell out of the way already! If you must stop, pull your cart down the dog food aisle or something and pick your nose down there and save me the trouble of popping a blood vessel while I try NOT to open that commercial size can of Whoop-Ass sitting in my cart!!!

UGH!!!!!
